Kanosuke is a distillery on the west coast of Kagoshima Prefecture on the Japanese island of Kyūshū, which was founded in 2017 by the traditional company Komasa Jyozo. Three differently shaped copper stills are available, and a mash of 85 per cent unpeated and 15 per cent peated barley malt is used. Maturation takes place in Recharred Shoshu Casks (Mellowed Kozuru) made of American white oak.
The whisky from Japan is like its makers. At first glance, reserved, respectful and polite. On closer inspection, however, enormously profound and multi-layered. Japanese whisky is the result of perfected craftsmanship. Many whiskies from Japan carry exotic fruity aromas and a floral bouquet in front of them.
