Heaven Hill is a distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky and Louisville, Kentucky. A distillery with this name was established as early as around 1890, and today's family-owned company was founded in 1935, directly after the end of Prohibition. The first Master Distiller was Harry Beam from the Jim Beam family, until today all Master Distillers of Heaven Hill were members of the Jim Beam clan. After a devastating fire in 1996, Heaven Hill bought the newly built Bernheim distillery in Louisville in 2000. Today, fermentation and distilling take place there, while the warehouse and a visitor centre are located in Bardstown.
Whiskey production in the United States is dominated by about a dozen large distilleries, so that almost all whiskey sold comes from a single distillery, and blended whiskey is almost non-existent as a mixture of the whiskey of several distilleries.
The terms single barrel for whiskey from a single cask and small batch for whiskey from a relatively small number of casks have become established as distinguishing features.
