The Blaue Maus distillery is based in the restaurant of the same name in Neuses/Eggolsheim and has been producing single malt whisky since 1983. Traditionally, the whisky is sold as a single cask bottling.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
