The Jacobi distillery goes back to the company founder of the same name, Jacob Jacobi, and the year 1880, when the private Jacobi distillery was founded in the small Swabian town of Weinstadt.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
