Marnier Lapostolle goes back to Jean Baptiste Lapostolle, who founded a cognac distillery and liqueur factory near Paris in 1827. His granddaughter Julia married Louis-Alexandre Marnier in 1876, who shortly afterwards invented the famous Grand Marnier (an orange liqueur refined with cognac).
