Tullamore Dew is a brand that goes back to the Tullamore distillery founded in 1829 in the town of Tullamore in County Offaly, Ireland. After many changes of ownership and location, it is now owned by William Grant & Sons (Glenfiddich) and the whisky is produced in a new distillery built near Tullamore in 2014.
Ireland has long played a leading role in the world as a whiskey producer. Not only was whiskey (or whiskey-like) distilled very early (from the 14th century onwards), but the sheer number of distilleries that developed over time (by 1800 there were already over 2000 distilleries) is remarkable.
