The history of Seagrams goes back to Joseph Emm Seagram, whose parents immigrated to Canada from England. In 1883, the first Canadian blend, Seagrams 83, was launched, establishing one of the largest spirits companies in the world.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
