This single cask bottling of a 25-year-old single malt from New Zealand was produced by the New Zealand Whisky Company. The whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and was bottled at cask strength in 2017 with 96 individually numbered bottles.
Willowbank was a distillery in Dunedin, New Zealand, which was established in 1969 by the Baker family. From 1974 it also produced whisky which was marketed under various names (Wilsons, Dunedin, Lammerlaw, Milford). Seagrams took over the distillery in the 1980s and in 1997 it was sold to Fosters and closed.
Whisky production in New Zealand essentially goes back to Scottish immigrants and thus the Wilson family, even though the New Zealand Distillery was opened as early as 1848, but was quickly abandoned. Since 1974, production has taken place on the site of the former Willowbank Brewery, but this distillery was finally closed in 1997. Today, the New Zealand Whisky Company distributes the remaining casks.
