This bottling from Hercynian Distilling (Glen Els / Elsburn) in the Heartgow Unique Collection is a special whisky, which is created by blending 3 different types of whisky (peated, unpeated and woodsmoked). The whisky was matured in first-fill ex-dark sherry casks and was bottled at cask strength in 475 bottles in 2021.
Elsburn (until September 2019 distributed under the name The Glen Els) is the best-known single malt whisky from the Harz region, produced by Hercynian Distilling Co. / Hammerschmiede, a manufactory for spirits and distillery for whisky in the Harz region of Lower Saxony. The name, like the Elsburn brand, is derived from the geographical location of the spirits manufactory on the Elsbach, in Zorge.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
