The Hardenberg distillery belongs to the seat of the Counts of Hardenberg and has a distilling tradition dating back to 1700. Whisky has also been produced since 2014.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business.
