The Sauerländer Edelbrennerei is a distillery in the village of Kallenhardt in Sauerland, North Rhine-Westphalia, which was founded in 2000. The Mc Raven whisky has been produced there since 2007. In 2016, they moved to a larger building to expand the distillery.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
